The Laboratory was established in 1956 as part of the Department for Food Analysis of the Food Technology Section, Faculty of Chemistry, Food Technology and Mining. It was located in the premises of the Faculty of Pharmacy on Domagojeva Street until 1962, when it moved to the new building of the Faculty of Technology at Pierottijeva 6. In the 1961/62 academic year, the Food Technology Section changed its name to the Biotechnology Section, the faculty became the Faculty of Technology, and the Department became the Chair of Food Chemistry with Analytics. Following the reorganization of the Faculty of Technology in 1979, the OOUR Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology was established within the RO Food Technology and Biotechnology Institute. In 1985, the institute was transformed into two OOURs, one of which was the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology with the Department for Food Quality Knowledge and Control, which included the Laboratory for Food Analysis and Nutrition, which has since been named the Laboratory for Quality Control in the Food Industry.
